By the use of Thevenin's theorem, or otherwise, derive an exact expression for the current flowing through the galvanometer in the circuit shown in Fig. 1(a). The resistance of the cell may be neglected. Hence show that, when 8R is small compared with R, the galvanometer current is nearly proportioned to 8R if the other parameters remain constant.
