" As an only child, Greer had become used to a great deal of privacy. Alec never left her alone for an hour. He was, in her estimation, "possessive to the point of being medieval:' He cross-examined her about the men who had been "in love" with her and refused to take her out dining in the evening because, he insisted, tourists and students had stared at her.

Not since Michael Barry had she met a man who intrigued and inspired her, whom she admired and immediately felt at ease with as a director.
